about

I recorded this acoustically live and thought it would be good to have it on the album. It's a bit of a rites of passage story, (I should add for anyone reading the lyrics this is not in anyway connected to my own father, a kind and gentle man who would not hurt a fly.)

lyrics

When I was just a child
My father raised his hand at me
I had done nothing wrong
Except it seems that is to be
Except it seems that is to be
Don’t know if you remember when
We hid in father’s shed
We carved our names into the wood
And swore we’d always remain friends
And swore we’d always remain friends
But your father got a job
In another city
So you abandoned me
To my father’s knee
Yes you abandoned me
But I learned over many years
How not to cry any more
Yes I learned over many years
How not to cry anymore
Years later I saw you in the street
You had a woman on your arm
When all I’ve got on mine are scars
It looks like life’s been kind to you
Not sure you saw me standing there
Or the venom in my stare
I didn’t mean to startle you
But you didn’t even know who I was
So I raised my fist to you
Don’t you know that’s how these things work
I beat you until you were black and blue
Until you lay bleeding in the earth
Until you lay bleeding in the dirt
Until you lay weeping in the earth
But you’ll learn like I had to learn how not to cry anymore
Yes you’ll learn like I had to learn how not to cry anymore
Yes you’ll learn like I had to learn how not to cry anymore.....
We carved our names into the dirt
And swore we’d always be friends

David Ell's debut album Wreckingball, preceding both Bruce Springsteen and Miley Cyrus, is a record full of "epic" pop songs. "For raw heart-on-the-sleeve pop, look no further".

Dance of the Furies (instrumental) features as one of NTL Music Radio's top 100 albums of the year (2012).

Enigmatic long player, Welcome To The Ball is due for release under record label Mask Carnival in 2015.
